Cannabis/Marijuana Regulations

City Staff hosted a public workshop on cannabis/marijuana on June 7th, 2017. The workshop was held in City Hall Council Chamber. The purpose of the workshop was to review and discuss potential regulations regarding Proposition 64 “The Adult Use of Marijuana Act” (AUMA).  The City sought public input regarding whether to allow cannabis/marijuana businesses such as retail operations and testing facilities, personal marijuana cultivation uses, and potential impacts such land uses may have on public health, safety, and welfare. AUMA authorizes cities to “reasonably regulate” cultivation of cannabis/marijuana inside a private residence, and regulate or completely prohibit outdoor cultivation, cannabis/marijuana retailers, dispensaries, and delivery services. The City Council is considering what regulations, if any, are suitable for Benicia. The workshop was organized by the City Attorney's office on behalf of City Council's request to solicit input from the public, appointed representatives from various boards and commissions, and members of the industry.
