Martinez Refinery Explosion & Fire
The City of Benicia continues to monitor the ongoing incident involving an explosion and fire at the Martinez Refining Company. In response, Contra Costa County has issued a Public Health Advisory for all of Martinez, as well as parts of Pacheco and Clyde. Additionally, a shelter-in-place order has been enacted for certain areas of Martinez.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has also issued an air quality advisory due to smoke affecting Contra Costa and Solano counties. While current conditions indicate that the smoke is not impacting Benicia, this may change depending on wind patterns. Residents are advised to remain vigilant. Should you detect the odor of smoke, it is recommended that you stay indoors, securely close all windows and doors, and turn off any ventilation systems, including heaters, air conditioners, and fans.
