Community Notification: 2/24/24 Odor from Benicia Valero Refinery

The Benicia Fire Department is currently working with the Valero Refinery on mitigating an odor coming from the refinery. The source has been determined to be refined hydrocarbon which, due to a unit going down last night, must be moved between two tanks. The process of moving the product is causing the odor which will continue for an unknown period of time.

Benicia Firefighters are testing air quality using portable air monitors at multiple points throughout the City. If the odor is strong in your area, we recommend you remain indoors and close doors and windows. If you do not smell an odor in your area, there is no need to close doors or windows.

Benicia Fire Department will continue to perform air monitoring and will notify the community of any changes. To receive notifications, sign up for AlertSolano at www.solanocounty.com/AlertSolano
