Severe Weather Preparedness & Sand Bags
WEATHER PREPAREDNESS
Severe Weather is Expected, please prepare for the following:
Power Outages
- Power outages
- Have flashlights accessible with fresh batteries and charge devices.
- Charge electric generators and have gas on hand for gas powered generators.
- Ensure medical equipment has a backup power source.
- Keep plenty of food and water on hand.
Flooding
- Clear storm drains of leaves and debris if safe to do so.
- Avoid driving, if possible.
FLOOD SAFETY TIPS
- Do not walk, swim or drive through flood waters. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
- Avoid wading in floodwater, which can be contaminated and contain dangerous debris. Underground or downed power lines can also electrically charge the water.
- Stay inside your car if it is trapped in rapidly moving water. Get on the roof if water is rising inside the car.
- Never drive around barricades. Local responders use them to safely direct traffic out of flooded areas.
- Be aware of the risk of electrocution. Do not touch electrical equipment if it is wet or if you are standing in water. Turn off the electricity to prevent electric shock if it is safe to do so.
- Self-serve sandbags are available 24/7 at the City’s Corporation Yard at 2400 East Second Street and at the East E Street Parking Lot (access from First Street)
If there is an emergency, such as an occupied vehicle in standing water, or anything affecting the life-safety of residents, please dial 9-1-1.
