What you should know:
-
A sign permit is required for installation or alteration of signs on private property (for example: wall, awning and shingle signs, blade signs, freestanding signs, etc.).
-
Sign permits are reviewed for compliance with the standards of the Sign Ordinance, any applicable conservation plan, and/or sign program.
-
A formal application and fee is required to apply for a sign permit.
-
The process of reviewing a sign permit will include an initial completeness review of up to 30 days, plus additional time for revisions, subsequent review, and issuance of a decision.
-
In addition to a sign permit, you may be required to obtain a construction permit prior to installation of the sign from the Building Safety Division. Construction permits, for example building or electrical permits, have separate submittal requirements and incur additional fees for permitting and inspection.
- If the sign is located in the public right of way, an encroachment permit will also be required.
