Address Assignment

The Planning Division of the Community Development Department oversees the assigning or changing of a property address in the City of Benicia. Property owners, tenants, or authorized agents can request an address assignment. Address requests must be made:

  • Before applying for a building permit for a new/additional structure to assure timeliness of applicant notification to PG&E.
  • To assign an address to an existing structure such as a permitted ADU, permitted garage conversion, or JADU.
  • For a PG&E meter that powers non-structural elements (e.g. landscape lighting).
  • To assign an address to a structure involved in a parcel split if that structure has no address or an address that does not follow city addressing standards.
  • To assign an address to a new commercial/industrial suite.
  • To correct a past addressing error or officialize an address not in the city’s/county’s system.

Below is some information regarding the assignment of addresses. When ready to proceed, please apply for your address via the Permit Center.
