Is This Building Historic?

The Downtown Historic District, including the First Street commercial area and its adjacent neighborhoods, encompasses a wide range of architectural styles from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Many of these buildings have been identified as historic resources, which contribute to the downtown Benicia’s character and help convey the history of the City from the early settlement of California through dawn of the WWII era.  In 2009, the City of Benicia adopted a historic survey to further describe and document the City’s downtown historic resources.  A list of the downtown designated historic buildings and a link to the adopted historic survey forms is provided below.

The Arsenal Historic District includes historic resources that reflect the military history of the former Benicia Arsenal over the period spanning from 1849 to 1964.  These buildings were identified in nomination process for the the National Register  of Historic Places nomination and Historic American Buildings Survey in the 1970's, as well as a subsequent survey of buildings in the early 1990's.
