Benicia Police Youth Cadet Program
The Benicia Police Department Youth Cadet Program is a non-paid, student volunteer group with the Benicia Police Department that consists of youths between the ages of 14 and 20 years old.
Requirements
- 14-20 years of age
- Graduated the 8th grade
- Must have and sustain a 2.0 grade point average with no “F” grade
- No criminal history (A background check is mandatory)
- Attend school regularly
- Must clear fingerprints/background check
- Participate minimum six (6) hours per month
Cadets must attend the mandatory monthly meeting and activities to learn the rolls and responsibilities of Police Officers. The activities can include but are not limited to the following:
- Police Ride-Along
- Crime Scene Investigations
- Arrest Techniques
- Traffic Stops
- Fingerprinting
- Range Shooting and training
- CPR/First Aid training
- Police Radio Codes
- Traffic Control
- Handcuffing training
- Patrol Procedures
The Cadets are also involved in the community by helping with special events coordinated through the Police Department. These events may count towards community service requirements for High School Graduation. The events include but are not limited to the following:
- Handicraft Faire
- Peddlers Faire
- High School sporting events
- Fourth of July celebrations
- Explorer competitions
- Bike Rodeos
- DUI Check points
