Youth Basketball League (Jan - Feb)
We offer a youth basketball league each Winter (games: January – February), with registration typically taking place in August – November. Players register individually and our staff will create teams. We value our volunteer coaches, as they are essential to the success of our program.
The season starts off a clinic that takes place December 2025 at the City Gym. The clinic is usually held on a Saturday. Starting in January, each team in the 1st - 8th grade divisions will receive one slot of practice time (1 hour) and will play one game each week (practice is mid-week, games are on Saturdays).
GRADE DIVISIONS: 1st - 8th grades
The City of Benicia offers a boys and girls Youth Basketball Program. Both programs will be for children in the First through Eighth grades and is divided into five divisions for the boys (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th/5th, and 6th-8th) and three divisions for the girls (1st/2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th). If one program does not have enough participants to create adequate teams, the programs may be combined. This will ensure that all children are guaranteed a program to play in. Players are placed on teams coached by volunteers and play seven games. The program is designed so that equal participation is given to all participants. The emphasis is on recreational play, exposure to fundamental basketball skills, rules and regulations, and most importantly having FUN!! Each team will be have one practice a week (1 hour) and games will be played on Saturdays.

ADAPTED BASKETBALL DIVISION - Players with disabilities from 4 - 22 years
This program is for our players with disabilities. The adapted basketball program will focus on skill development, coordination, and skill application. Each week will focus on a different skill related to basketball, or physical skills can be used to participate in a variety of sports. The basics of the skill will be demonstrated and then players will practice the skill during a variety of structured activities and fun games to encourage practice and competency. The first 40 minutes will be used for skill development and practice; during the last 15 minutes players will have time to work on skills independently or with other players. The emphasis of this program is on learning the skills related to the game of basketball and having fun. Players need to provide their own "coach" or assistant to provide encouragement and help during the skill development portion of the day.
