  • In January, with the assistance from Solano County Cal-MMET agents, we uncovered a very large marijuana cultivation in Benicia. Dispatch received a report of a suspicious circumstance at a business that advised earlier in the day they lost electrical power. Several hours later the business found wiring running from their location to a neighboring unit in the complex, and also observed a heavy odor of marijuana emitting from the unit, which appeared unoccupied. Once officers arrived, they quickly notified Solano County Cal-Met agents. Both agencies worked together to secure the premise and obtained a search warrant. Once the warrant was executed, a very large marijuana cultivation was located. About 6,000 marijuana plants were seized.
  • In June, a 23-year-old man was critically injured after a hit and run. After an extensive investigation and following many leads, the suspect was identified and was persuaded to turn himself in to the police on a $100,000 felony hit and run warrant. The suspect was later arrested without incident, and the victim recovered fully.
  • In September, Benicia police assisted El Dorado County Sheriffs Office in the investigation of an arson and homicide involving a local suspect and family. The investigation led to the arrest of the victims 16-year-old son.
  • In November, Benicia Police Officers responded to a 911 call of a husband, 48, threatening to shoot his wife. The wife was able to leave the house without harm. The officers attempted to contact the husband over a 14-hour period to persuade him to exit the home. He later surrendered following the activation of the Benicia/Vallejo Regional SWAT team, which included police negotiators. No one was injured in the incident. A safe plan was used to insure the safety of the community and suspect.
