Trails and Paths - Walking/Biking


We invite you to explore the paths and trails throughout and around the City of Benicia. 

To ensure everyone's enjoyment of our public trails/paths, we request the following:

  • Many of the path/trail access points are in neighborhoods; please be respectful of private property, and please park appropriately, if traveling to trail head by car.
  • Pets are permitted on paths (except on nature trails in Benicia State Recreation Area), but must be on leash at all times.  Please pick up after your pet.
  • Please leave no trace.
  • Practice safety, as paths and trails are shared by walkers, runners and bicyclists.

Benicia Community Park to McAllister Drive

  • This dirt path can be accessed in the Benicia Community Park near the little league fields on the east side of the park (near the 2nd tee box for Disc Golf). The opposite access point is on McAllister Drive, between 624 & 652 McAllister.
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.8 miles. 
  • Restrooms/water are available at Benicia Community Park.

Lake Herman to Benicia Community Park

  • This partial paved/partial dirt path can be accessed at Lake Herman Park. The access point on the opposite end is in the Benicia Community Park near the Soroptimist Grove (northeast corner of park).
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.9 miles. 
  • Restrooms or water is available at Benicia Community Park. A portable restroom is available at Lake Herman Park.
  • Lake Herman is a water source for the City of Benicia. No swimming or boating is permitted. Fishing is allowed.

Benicia Community Park loop

  • This paved path can is in Benicia Community Park. The path makes a full loop around the park fields and playground area.
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.7 miles. 
    • Additional length can be added by walking the paths that criss-cross the park, or add on additional walking paths in the area.
  • Restrooms/water are available near the playground; in the middle of the park at the upper canteen building; or near the dog park (portable restroom).

Rollye Wiskerson Trail

  • This dirt path can be accessed on the north side of Benicia Community Park, either near the Soroptimist Grove (for good uphill workout), or closer to the dog park (to avoid the first uphill section). The trail can be accessed at about mile 1.0, through Gateway Park. The trail crosses Bantry Way at approximately 1.5 miles (if starting at Community Park). The trail ends/intersects the Bay Area Ridge Trail just past Channing Circle Park.  
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 2.0 miles.  
  • Restrooms/water are available at Benicia Community Park.

Bay Area Ridge Trail

  • This dirt path can be accessed off of the Rollye Wiskerson trail near Channing Circle Park. (Other access points in Vallejo are available). The access point on the opposite end is at the rear of the KinderCare parking lot off Rose Drive (near Benicia Road).
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.9 miles. 
  • There are no restrooms/water on this path.

Kearney Drive to McAllister Drive

  • This paved path can be accessed on Kearney Street, just past McCall Drive (if coming from Rose Drive) opposite the Benicia Community Park.  The other access point is on McAllister Drive, past Percy Drive on the left hand side of the road.
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.7 miles.  
  • The closest restrooms/water are in Benicia Community Park.

Rose Drive to Camellia Court

  • This path can be accessed at the sidewalk on the corner of Snapdragon Place and Rose Drive at the Jack London Park. The path goes through Jack London Park and runs along the south side of Joe Henderson Elementary School.  The opposite access point is on Camellia Court (between 487 & 499 Camellia Court).
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.3 miles. 
    • To lengthen your distance, add the Camellia Court to Hastings Drive, and/or the Hastings Drive to Palace Court path, and/or the Palace Court to London Circle path to your walk/ride.
  • Restrooms/water are available at Jack London Park.

Camellia Court to Hastings Drive

  • This paved path can be accessed on the east side of Park Solano at Camellia Court. The path crosses the road at Solano Drive at the intersection of Solano Drive and Hastings. The access point on the opposite end is on Hastings Drive (across the street from trail head for path from Hastings Drive to Palace Court).
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.2 miles. 
    • To lengthen your distance, add the Rose Drive to Camellia Court path, and/or the Hastings Drive to Palace Court path, and/or the Palace Court to London Circle path to your walk/ride.
  • There are no restrooms/water near the path.

Hastings Drive to Palace Court

  • This paved path through Braito Open Space, and can be accessed on Hastings Drive (approximately 601 Hastings). The access point on the opposite end is at the cul-de-sac of Palace Drive.
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.9 miles.
    • To lengthen your distance, add the Rose Drive to Camellia Court path, and/or Camellia Court to Hastings Drive path, and/or the Palace Court to London Circle path to your walk/ride.
  • There are no restrooms/water on this path.

Palace Court to London Circle

  • This dirt path can be accessed at the end of Palace Drive.  The path crosses Cambridge Drive (at approximately the 0.3 mile mark) and can be accessed here as well. The opposite access point is on London Circle, near 1531 & 1543 London Circle.
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.8 miles. 
    • To lengthen your distance, add the Palace Court to Hastings Drive and/or, the Hastings Drive to Camellia Court path, and/or Rose Drive to Camellia Court path to your walk/ride.
  • There are no restrooms/water on this path.

Benicia State Recreation Area (shorter path)

  • This path is located in the Benicia State Recreation Area. Parking in the lots in the State Park requires the payment of a fee.
  • This paved path can be accessed at West K Street, near Military West. The access point for the opposite end of the path, as drawn, is at the entrance to the Benicia State Recreation Area, located off of the on ramp to East Bound 780 [nearest intersection - Rose Drive and Benicia Road].
  • The path continues on into the Recreation Area, however the portion of the path drawn here is a portion that is closed to vehicle access.
  • Approximate mileage, one way - 0.9 miles. 
    • Two additional nature trails are accessible off the paved path (dogs not permitted on nature trails) and are as noted in yellow on the map.  The bottom trail is 0.4 miles in length; the top trail is 0.5 miles in length. 
  • There is a portable restroom in the parking lot near West K. Other restrooms/water are located in the State Recreation Area past the pay booth at the entrance.
  • Pets are permitted on the paved path only, but must be on leash at all times.  Please pick up after your pet.

Benicia State Recreation Area (longer path)

  • From a brochure highlighting well loved biking/walking paths in Benicia, this route will take you the full distance of the Benicia State Recreation paved trail.
  • Approximate mileage: 5 miles, out and back
  • Restrooms are available at multiple points in the State Recreation Area
  • Water is available at multiple points in the State Recreation Area

Dillon Point at Benicia State Recreation Area

  • From a brochure highlighting well loved biking/walking paths in Benicia, this route will take you along a dirt path in the Benicia State Recreation area, but is not suitable for road bikes.  This a nice walk or a trail for mountain bikes.
  • Approximate mileage: 1.5 mile loop
  • Portable restrooms are available near trail head

Historic Arsenal Path/Trail

  • Approximate mileage: 4.5 mile loop
  • Restrooms available at the Benicia Capital State Historic Park and on the Benicia Point.

The Grand Tour Ride

Carquinez Strait Scenic Loop Trail

  • Portions of the Carquinez Strait Scenic Loop Trail go along the waterfront in Benicia.  
  • There are two trail information boards along the trail, at the following locations:
    • Alvarez 9th Street Park (along the walking path)
    • Benicia Marina (near the launch ramp)
  • This trail will connect you with over 10,000 acres of parks, open spaces, and historic communities.
  • In Benicia, restrooms and water are available at Alvarez 9th Street Park, the Benicia State Capitol, and First Street Pier.
